Greatest Golfer veterans Dave Kilgore and Matt May got out early Saturday, and posted a lead they never gave up to win the Open Flight in the 2025 Belleria Pizza 2-Player Best Ball tourney Saturday at the Links at Firestone.
It was a sold-out field of 84 players toiling with 2-club winds and a 39-degree feel to launch the 2025 Farmer National Bank Greatest Golfer season. Scoring was gross after flights were set by teams’ combined handicaps.
Kilgore and May carded a 66 to win by one shot over 2024 champs Ryan Sam and Rocco Turner. Behind them for third place was J.F. Aber and Nick Pidgeon, and Brandon Pluchinsky and Nolan Snyder, with 68s.
“It was just cold, but a lot of fun,” said Kilgore. “All and all, it was a good round. Did I mention it was cold?”
Kilgore dropped a 50-foot putt on 2 for a birdie to get them started under par. He birdied No. 3 as well. Kilgore birdied on 5 and May on 7.
“We started off slow on the back and didn’t birdie again until Matt’s on No. 14,” said Kilgore.
Kilgore hit a 15-footer on 17 for birdie. Scrappy pars, including on the par 5 No. 18 put them over.
In Flight 2, Mike Moore and Dave Morgan (INSET PHOTO) posted a 69 to win. Behind them was a tie for second between Joe Bokros and Mike Rohall, and Josh Dankovich and Jim Stitt, with 71s. Taking the 4th place spot was Andrew Batchelor and Jack Egan with 72.
In Flight 3, Mark Fonner and Bradley Koch shot 77 and shared 1st place with Greg Banner and Brandon Kekel.
Four teams shot 78 to share 3rd place: Peter Modelski and Patrick Modelski; Jeff Mast and Jeff Meyers; Mike Moss and Sean Thomas and Terry James and Mike Ritter.
