Hines, Franks win Belleria-Mediate 2-player at Riverview
Benefitting from home confines, Corey Hines and John Franks carded a 63 Saturday to win the Belleria Pizza 2-player Shootout presented by Mediate Financial Services.
Played at Riverview Golf Course in Newton Falls, it was the second of three 2-player events of the 2021 Greatest Golfer season. A total of 26 teams competed in 2 flights.
“Key today was the short game – chipping around the green, putting, and getting the ball to check up,” said Hines.
Hines chipped in for birdie on the final hole to seal a great day.
On home course knowledge, Hines said: “Knowing where the ball will bounce and how firm the greens are – it helps a ton.”
Hines has been playing Greatest Golfer for 10 years.
“I love playing Greatest Golfer events.”
Winning Division 2 was Merrill Whippo and Jamie Viano with a 68. They edged out in a scorecard playoff the father-son duo of Reid Lamport and Reid Lamport Jr., who settled for 2nd place.
Division 1 winners were Randy and Bill Braham in 2nd (64), Robert and Fred Gintert (65) in 3rd and Glenn Milton and George Allen in 4th (68).
The other winners in Division 2 were Josh Marsh and Dom Giudici in 3rd (71), and Angelo Bianco and Rocky Page in 4th. (73)
Riverview is run by the Gintert family and course manager Jeff Myers. Next year will be the 60th year for the Gintert family’s business that Ed Gintert Sr. created.
The third Belleria/Mediate 2-player will be Sept. 18 at Yankee Run.
