Hot day; hot play | Zines, Ross, Ensley, Philibin earn Greatest finals
Hot play matched the hot temperatures Wednesday at Squaw Creek Avalon Country Club as Greatest Golfer teed off its 3rd ‘Joe’ Dickey Electric juniors event of the summer.
Zach Ross of Moon Township and Rocco Turner of Tippecanoe Country Club carded 76s to lead the u17 Boys divison. Matilyn Zines of Links at Firestone Farms shot 82 powered by an opening eagle.
In u14 play, Aubree Philibin of Mill Creek Golf Course posted a 90, and Andrew Fredenburg of Old Avalon Golf Course and Jackson Ensley of The Lake Club posted 84s to led their divisions.
Zines and Philibin earn finals seats outright. In scorecard playoffs, Ross and Ensley earn finals seats over Turner and Fredenburg.
Ross said managing the heat was key. “It made for a long day. You just had to hit shots and trust yourself,” said Ross.
Zines’ eagle start gave way to some bad points she had to overcome.
“I started getting a bit down on myself and worry. But then I just relaxed a little, and I got some pars and then birdied a hole.”
Greatest tees off twice next week — Tuesday at Mill Creek starting at 8 a.m. On Wednesday, play is at Pine Lakes starting at 10:30 a.m. Click here to register.
