The Joe Dickey Electric/Banner Supply Greatest Golfer Juniors tournament at the Lake Club showcased a competitive day of golf, with champions emerging from four distinct divisions.
In the Coaches Burger Bar U17 Boys division, Matthew Morrone of Poland Seminary High School led the field with an impressive score of 73. He was followed by Trenton Hall in second place with an 80 and Shane Barnes in third with an 81. Despite his victory, Morrone noted a difficult start to his round, stating, “I started off pretty rough… the bogey [on hole one] made me mad so I just used the anger towards the golf itself.“
The Links at Firestone U17 Girls division saw Maddie Jackson, who attends Columbiana, take the top spot with a score of 87. Sloan Wolanzyk followed in second with a 91, and Olivia Norris rounded out the top three with a 93. Reflecting on her performance and a turnaround on the back nine, Jackson said, “it started out a little rough but got a hold of it on the back and it was a good day and I had fun.“
Competition was also fierce in the Morrone Mechanical U14 Boys division, where Roman Carder from Hermitage secured first place with a score of 77. He was followed by Landon Maxwell in second with an 85 and Tristan Parker in third with an 87. Carder highlighted a strong finish to his day, remarking, “on 18 I stuck it to three feet and made the birdie putt.“
Finally, in the Brilex Group U14 Girls division, Olivia Kempe of St. Charles School claimed victory with a score of 97. She finished ahead of Ellison Greenwood, who took second with a 108, and Gia Mancini, who placed third with a 118. Kempe, who enjoyed the familiar setting of the Lake Club, shared, “I always play this course i I just I love this course.“
