Greatest Golfer juniors battled Reserve Run and Mother Nature Saturday, and congrats to Anthony Palumbo and his dad, Jamie, for being best shooters in a reduced 9-hole event in the ‘Joe’ Dickey Electric Junior 2-player Scramble.
The Old Avalon duo carded a 32, besting the pairs of Colten Smith and Dave Cooper from Pine Lakes and Braden and Brad Meshula from The Lake Club, who each carded 33 on the front.

Earning top points for the July championship are Palumbo, u17 Coaches Burger Boys; Sienna Smith and Megan Manesiotis, u17 Lane Funeral Home Girls; Meshula, u14 Morrone Mechanical Boys; and Jennifer Mix, u14 Ambrose Family Eye Care Girls.
Youngstown Tile & Terrazzo and Phantom Fireworks are also lead sponsors in Greatest Juniors.
“Managing the weather was tough,” said Jamie. “But we don’t get a chance to play competitive as father-son, so we played on with hand-warmers and umbrellas. Kudos to the event team for managing tough conditions. When Anthony got excited with our play, it was lots of fun.”
Jamie said his course experience blended with Anthony’s skills on drives and irons.
Greatest juniors has 9 more junior events before the 36-hole July championships at Avalon Lakes Golf Course. It’s the most affordable competitive junior golf in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Next up is last week’s rain makeup at The Lake Club, tentatively set for June 2. We then play June 13 at Salem Hills.
