The Joe Dickey Electric / Banner Supply Juniors Championship faced a weekend of challenging weather that tested the resolve of the region’s best young golfers playing for the 2026 Greatest Golfer Championship.
While the U17 divisions managed a full slate of play on Friday, Saturday’s rounds were cut short by persistent rain. Despite the U17 Girls being limited to 16 holes, the U14 Boys to 13, and the U14 Girls to 12, the competition remained fierce across all divisions.
In the premier U17 Boys Coaches Burger Bar Division, Matthew Morrone of Poland Seminary High School delivered a performance for the record books. Morrone was the only player to finish “in the red” on both days, posting a 69 on Friday and a 71 on Saturday for a 140 total.
Morrone attributed his success to a strong mental game, aided by his caddy, Parker Ogden. “I had Parker Ogden on the bag, which is nice because I could talk to him whenever versus sometimes it’s just your own thoughts out there,” Marone shared. “Once we get to the golf ball and at address, we obviously talk about golf, but just to keep my mind off of golf we talk about anything else.”

Aubree Philibin from Canfield High School captured the title in the girls’ U17 division, largely behind a dominant opening round of 74 at Avalon. The rain-shortened Saturday proved more difficult, but her Friday cushion was enough to secure the win.
“Yesterday was definitely a much better day,” Philibin admitted. “My putts were going in; today they were not. And my full swings were much better yesterday, too.” Despite the Saturday struggles, Philibin noted the win would give her “some confidence going into my high school season and like being able to be a good team member for my team.”

The U14 Boys division saw Preston Tolnar of Canfield Village Middle School emerge as the champion. Navigating the 13-hole Saturday course with poise, Tolnar’s victory highlighted him as one of the top performers of the weekend. His steady play throughout the rain-slicked rounds earned him the top spot on the podium and solidified his status as a Greatest Golfer champ.

Kate Plummer, representing Grove City, took home the U14 Girls trophy after a truncated 12-hole final round. Plummer noted that her game has reached a new level of consistency. “My chipping has been good; my irons are more consistent than they’ve been,” she said.
