St Andrews cheered on Richard James!

Meet Richard James of Rockville! Tournament golf is awesome. But admittedly — so too is a round at St. Andrews, and to hit a shot that draws applause from the Scotland crowd — of shoppers. That’s the story Richard James, playing in the Seniors Net division of the 2020 GolfLeagueSite Greatest Golfer, can tell. “While playing the 18th hole at the Old Course at St Andrews I hit a not so good drive,” said James of Rockville. His second shot there was also less than stellar — resting under a fence about 80 yards from the pin. “It was almost noon, so there were 100-150 people hanging around the 18th green where there is shopping, restaurants and just a great view of the golf course.” James took a drop and got some caddie advice. “He told told me not to hit a wedge at the flag as the green wouldn’t hold it. He said to run an 8-iron up the fence line and let the green bring the ball to the hole.” Sure enough, it worked. “As soon as it got halfway up the green, it turned left and rolled 60 feet to about 18 inches from the hole.” The best was still to come. “The fun part was while I was walking toward the green, the crowd that had just witnessed my shot started clapping and yelling, so I had to tip my hat.” CLICK HERE FOR TOURNAMENT INFO AND REGISTRATION • The joy of tournament golf?
