It was all in the driver for Kaitlyn Hoover and Austin Mariani as they earned spots in the Greatest Golfer junior championships.
They were the leaders from Thursday’s ‘Joe’ Dickey Electric Greatest Golfer qualifier at Tam O’Shanter.

“Driver. Just driver. Well – and approach shots, too” said Hoover, last year’s Greatest Golfer u17 champ from Wilmington Area. She shot 79 Thursday.
“On the front, I didn’t do too good. But on the back, I turned it around,” said Mariani of Badger High School. He shot a 75.
“Driver got in trouble on the front side. But I straightened it out on the back side.”
The Greatest juniors series, presented by ‘Joe’ Dickey Electric, Youngstown Tile Retail Design Center and Phantom Fireworks, features 10 events from May 7 to July 20, followed by a skills championship then a 36-hole finals July 21-22 at Avalon Lakes. Event costs range from $45-$65, and there is no seasonal membership fee. It’s Ohio and Pennsylvania’s least expensive yet most competitive summer play for high schoolers.
